Among men at his position, only Brooks Robinson and Mike Schmidt earned more than Rolen’s eight Gold Gloves. Rolen’s traditional counting numbers are solid for men at the Hall’s least-represented position – he has 2,077 hits, 316 homers, and 1,287 RBI.
Using SABRmetric tools to analyze his career makes his Cooperstown inclusion even stronger. Only nine men who played the majority of their careers at third have a higher WAR than Rolen’s 70.2 career total. All are in the Hall of Fame.

In the collection is this game-used lineup card signed by Jays manager Cito Gaston. In the May 23, 2009 night game, the Jays dropped a 4-3 contest to the hometown Atlanta Braves.
Gaston signed the bottom of the card as Toronto manager. The lineup is filled with a nondescript nine, save Hall of Fame third baseman Rolen. A SABRmetric darling, Rolen was inducted into Cooperstown 2023.
In this contest Rolen went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk. The two-base hit was the 423rd of his career which tied him with fellow Cooperstown man Willie Stargell.
